The cottage at La Bessardičre is about 1˝ hours drive south of the Port of Cherbourg. It is also easily accessed from the
Ports of St.Malo (1˝ hours), Caen (1˝ hours), and Le Havre (2 hours). Calais and the Channel Tunnel are approx 4
hours drive. Paris (West) approx 3 hours and Paris (Disney and airports approx 4 hours).
The nearest large town is Villedieu-les-Poęles (approx
3 miles) which is famous for the production of
copper-ware and its' Bell foundry. The area has a wide
range of things to do and places to visit. Food is very
important in France and for those wishing to eat out,
there is a good selection of restaurants within easy
access.
If you wish to try your hand at cooking some of the
fresh local produce, there is a very good market each
Tuesday morning in Villedieu. You will find food from
the surrounding farms and superb displays of seafood
from the local fishing ports.
A visit to the coast is an easy trip, with Granville being about ˝ hour to the west. It is a delightful place with a good
balance between the old and the new. It has sandy beaches and a busy 'working ' port. Ferry trips are available , to
Jersey and Chausey from Easter to late Summer. There are good beaches along the West coast, as well as the north
coast (the 'Landing Beaches')
Normandy has a very historic past, much of which is inter- twined with British
history. Within easy reach, there are many interesting places to visit. Bayeux, with
it's World famous tapestry; Caen and the Memorial museum; Mont St.Michel;
St.Malo, with its' historic walled town; Rouen; Avranches and many, many,
more.........
You can spend days tracing the footsteps of the D-Day invasion.You can have an
